Mango Lassi Crunch Muffins

I wish I liked coffee. I really do.

I have this idea that if I liked coffee I’d be more sophisticated. Just a little more glamorous.

If I liked coffee I probably wouldn’t have such a potty mouth. I’d be fresh like driven snow!

If I liked coffee I probably wouldn’t be sitting here in yoga pants and an old Brew Thru tee shirt. I’d be wearing culottes and a jaunty scarf around my neck!

I just think that if I could get behind a morning cup of java, I’d be the best version of myself.

But, alas, I can’t stand the stuff. And I’ve tried!

Instead I prefer to attend business meeting with a 153 oz. fountain soda in hand. Arrive at family functions with a 2 liter tucked in my pocket. Wear my soda love on my sleeve.

What can I say?

Intellectually I know that it’s undignified to slurp out of a bottle or can in polite company, but soda has remained a hold-over comfort from my schooling days and I refuse to give it up.

And now my daily diet soda has taken the place of my childhood security blanket. I feel unprepared without it. Naked until it’s in hand. Mentally verklempt until I’ve started my journey to the bottom of the koozie-protected can (Yes, it’s a Brew Thru koozie and yes, I’m officially a hot mess.).

Milk Bar Mondays: Carrot Cake Truffles

Something new today! But still very delish.

Something from this book. The book that launched a thousand ships on a sea of drool.

Today we celebrate our very first Milk Bar Monday! That is, Mondays on which myself and a group of lovely friends will be bringing you the greatest hits from Momofuku’s Milk Bar cookbook.

Beginning today with some crazy awesome Carrot Cake Truffles. Can you stand it?!? Me neither. Let’s get started.

I’ll break it down step-by-step for you. Just so your brain can handle everything that I’m bringing today.

1.  The moistest, sweetly spiced, carrot-riddled cake that you can imagine.

The carrots are there. Doing their sweet/crunchy thing.

The cinnamon is involved.

It’s a successful cake situation.

Clean Pantry Cookies

At the risk of you, my friends, thinking that I’m a water-avoiding, Hot Pocket-guzzling, no work-doing, reality TV addict, I’d like to spend today discussing a New Year’s Resolution Victory from this past week.

Don’t worry, my DVR is fully programmed for any Bachelor and/or Jersey Shore opportunities, and Hot Pockets stand up well to re-microwaving.

Pay close attention, people. Things won’t be looking this good again until January 9, 2013.

That’s right:  spices were alphabetized, canned goods were color-coded, dried chiles were sorterated, and my pantry actually got cleaned.

Believe.

And I don’t know about you, but when the Dog Star aligns with the Moon, Halley’s Comet threads the Eye of the Tiger and my pantry actually gets cleaned, I always wind up with a counter full of a little bit of this and a little bit of that:

4 ounces of white chocolate
1 tablespoon of honey
a dash of ground ancho chile
2 1/2 teaspoons of sesame seeds
3 1/4 ounces of butterscotch chips
a pinch of chia seeds
1 smidgen of some indeterminate substance wrapped in tinfoil and labeled simply ‘Dinner, Feb. 2011′

Huh? Whatever.

Chocolatized Butternut Bread

How about another game today?

This one’s called Hide The Elf.

I played Hide The Elf all the time as a child during the holidays. But, unfortunately, no matter how nicely I ask, A. won’t play with me.

What? Yes. You best believe there’s a lump of coal under the tree that has his name all over it.

So will you play with me?

Yes! You’re awesome!

Here’s what you’re looking for. Mr. Elf-Man.

All you need to do is find Mr. Elf-Man in each shot included in this post (except the first and last ones) and you win! You win an amazing recipe for some super-delicious Chocolatized Butternut Bread!

And I won’t talk a lot or distract you during this post – I really want you to win.

Ok? Cool.

On your mark…  get set…  GO!

Tequila Sunrise Chocolate Bark

Let’s talk gifts.

As in, ’tis the season.
As in, I like receiving them.
As in, giving them makes me nervous.

When it comes to gift-giving, I generally like to keep it homemade. Because, the fact of the matter is, whether you know someone well or you’re just keeping it acquaintance-like, homemade gifts show thought.

And isn’t thought what it’s all about?

I think so. (See? I just shared a thought with you.)

For my part, I really love receiving homemade gifts:  the effort, the thought, the craftiness – I feel like the giver is sharing a little bit of him/herself with me.

In a good way.

I don’t want your nail clippings. I don’t need you to clean out your hairbrush. I just want to know more about you and how your life is going. Because I think you’re cool and maybe we could end up friends.

Like that.
