Sundays are for relaxing, don’t you think?
Relaxing by tuning in to watch ridiculously beautiful people walk down a ridiculously fancy carpet on their way to receiving ridiculously glitzy awards for their roles in ridiculously silly TV shows that you never had time to watch anyway.
That’s just ridiculous.
Consider this a Sunday Turbo Post, because what Sundays are actually for, what I hope you’re doing right now, is sitting on the couch in your ridiculously silly pajamas, watching a ridiculously entertaining sporting event, eating ridiculously good Spicy Buttermilk Mashed Potatoes out of a ridiculously large serving bowl.
And since you’ve got some relaxing to do, I’m not going to waste any more of your time talking about it – that would just be ridiculous.
Spicy Buttermilk Mashed Potatoes
4 large Russet potatoes, peeled, cut into thirds
1/2 c. buttermilk
1/2 c. unsalted butter, softened
1 tbsp. cumin, ground
1 tbsp. onion powder
1 tbsp. garlic, ground
1 1/2 tbsp. ancho chile, ground
2 tsp. sea salt, finely ground
Place potato pieces into a large, heavy-bottomed pot of boiling water and boil until fork-tender, approximately 30 minutes. Remove cooked potato pieces and drain. Place potatoes into the bowl of a stand mixer fitted with a paddle attachment and mix with butter and buttermilk on a low speed until smooth. Mix in the cumin, onion powder, garlic, ancho and salt, and once incorporated increase the speed of the mixer to whip potatoes to a smooth consistency. Whip for just 2-3 minutes and remove. Serve immediately or store in a covered container in the refrigerator for up to 3 days.
YIELD: approximately 5 cups

Looking at the photo and reading the ingredients makes me hungrier. YUM!
Yum! Love all the flavors you added!
I loved mashed potatoes! I’m making steaks tonight and going to have these on the side – really looking forward to trying them!
Awesome, Ashley! Let me know how they turn out!!
These look amazing! Always looking for good mashed potato recipes. Oh, and I LOVE that dish!
Those look great! They probably go with any number of dishes, but do you serve them with anything in particular?
These potatoes do compliment a wide variety of main courses, but I really like serving them with chicken. Their spice kicks sometimes-bland chicken up a notch.
Lord almighty, is there anything I love more than a beautiful bowl of buttermilk mashed potatoes?
Certainly nothing is coming to mind right now.
Omg, these look WONDERFUL!
I totally want this! Like now! On a plate or in a bowl with a big ass spoon. YUM!
These look TO DIE FOR. Oh my god I want to just drink those.
These are beyond amazing. Seriously, the best flavors EVER for mashed potatoes!
It’s definitely mashed potato season! Love this combination of warming spices.
So would it be wrong if I told you I’m currently still in my Sunday silly jammies ready to race to the grocery store to buy potatoes? I want these nowwwwww!
I am going to make these and be ridiculous too.
Like yhe ancho in there yum!
I am indeed sitting in my ridiculous pj’s watching tv. I found these totally cute Hatley pj bottoms while on vacation. One pair has a bear holding a hair dryer that says bad hair days, and the other has horses in pj’s rolling around in hay and they say wanna roll in the hay. Yup, totally classy. But I think if I was eating these gorgeous potatoes it would make wearing the pj’s okay. Like one thing cancelling out another or something. I wonder if I can find a big bowl with bears holding hair dryers on it.
Yes to bears holding hair dryers. Always.
Oh yes please!! Ancho chile + mashed potatoes = match made in heaven
Can I have that whole bowl please? both the potatoes AND the bowl
So pretty!
And look at your putting some ancho chili into taters…love it!
Mmm these sound lovely! Great idea
